Third Root Yoga Teachers
Doreen Kramer
Doreen Kramer came to yoga as an injured dancer and discovered a practice that teaches her how to dance her life!
Her teaching philosophy grows from her background working with community organizations on issues of domestic violence, youth leadership, and the rights and self-determination of Asian immigrant and refugee communities. She firmly believes that the reality of social justice is manifested through the healing, empowerment, freedom and evolution of individuals from all communities. Her caring and thoughtful attention, gracefully delivered directions, empathetic skills, creativity and quality hands-on adjustments elegantly and intelligently guide students through their personal journey towards wholeness and aliveness with visceral connection to spirit. She delights in learning from her students and sharing with love the teachings that have most transformed her own life.
Her initial teaching experience was at Yoga to the People, a donation based studio in the East Village. In 2007, Doreen traveled to Hong Kong to complete a Foundation Forrest Yoga Teacher Training with master yogini Ana Forrest. To meet the specific needs of young people and women, Doreen is trained to teach ages 3-12 through Asana Alphabet, and certified to teach prenatal yoga under the experienced teaching and shadowing of Ma Yoga’s Mia Borgotta.
Doreen holds a Bachelor’s Degree of Arts and Sciences from NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Studies where she concentrated in sociology, women’s studies and dance. She is currently a member of contemporary dance company based in NYC that uses dance as an educational vehicle for social change.
