Community Health Forums

Community Health Forums are an opportunity for Third Root practitioners to present Third Root to specific community groups, and give them an opportunity to give feedback and tell us how we could serve them better. So far, we have given four health forums at various organizations and centers, in the Flatbush neighborhood and beyond. From these Health Forums, we take the information back to our worker cooperative, and figure out how to expand our services to include the needs that were brought to our attention.
One example of the feedback we have received comes from the Dorchester Senior Center, who asked that we install railings so that they could move around our Center more safely — and we have begun installing these. Another organization in Flatbush, Bold Hope, told us that so much of health in the neighborhood depends on healthy homes, and we could support that by having a therapist on staff and hosting therapy groups. This is on our agenda for Winter 2009, when our capacity is at full strength to grow again with a few more practitioners. We also met with Domestic Workers United and they asked for a Community Acupuncture session just open to domestic workers, and we are working that into our workshop agenda.
We encourage you to host your own Third Root Community Health Forum at your organization, mosque, or community-oriented business. Email info@thirdroot.org to find out more. Please join us and use your voice and heart to help us reflect the community even more!
