Why a Commitment to Local and Global Community?
Racial, economic, class, gender, and age disparities exist all over the globe and are huge thorns in the progress of human development. When we look at worldwide health care, the disparity is staggering. For instance, two-thirds of all incidence and deaths from AIDS exist on the continent of Africa. Yet the technology exists so that the very same drugs that are increasing the life expectancy of many Americans and Europeans living with AIDS could be available globally. This is only one example of the pervasiveness of social injustice worldwide. One’s race, economic status, class, gender and gender identity, and age are key factors in determining the quality of healthcare provided. The scale and depth of disparity is a cost that the human family simply cannot afford — this injustice in healthcare affects us all. When people are denied the right to wellness, it injures the human soul and we all suffer the consequences. It is our responsibility as citizens of the world to stand up and do our part so that we can all live in a world that is safe from oppression.
Third Root is a community of wellness providers who are committed to social change through our wellness agenda. A component of the Third Root vision is that in order to be a part of global transformation, we must begin making changes with ourselves, our families and friends, those in our immediate environment and our communities. Third Root, through the venue of community health, is actively working to end the cycle of abuse, neglect, and inequality in the healthcare system. We provide healthcare services to ANYONE, regardless of race, age, gender, gender identity, ability, sexuality, immigrant status, and economic or social class. We not only set this intention but ally with marginalized communities to provide care that is loving, respectful, and knowledgable, through a series of anti-oppression trainings, community health forums, health scholarships, and making our space available to community members to teach about health.
Community healthcare means knowing the practitioner, knowing that you can access the practitioner in times of need, and knowing that you care as much about your health and that of the community as your practitioner. This takes trust and accountability, and Third Root is committed to bringing those elements back to healthcare. Local quality healthcare also means being familiar with health in a broad sense — from the food you eat, to the emotional environment that you live in, from first aid to long-term health conditions, to the air you breath and the water you drink. All of these elements (and more!) affect your state of wellness and health, and we at Third Root are committed to addressing your health in this holistic manner.
At Third Root, everyone is embraced in a safe, warm, loving environment by caring healthcare professionals. Where there is harmony there is order. Where there is harmony there is joy. Where there is harmony there is peace. Where there is harmony there is wellness. Where there is harmony there is no need for war, greed, separation, or inequality of any kind.
